In a move to expand digital access and equity, the city of Homestead, Fla., has launched a “WiFi in the Parks” initiative.

Homestead’s mayor and city council approved a resolution to expand WiFi service to all city of Homestead parks. This new initiative will bring free, high-speed internet to 11 out of 13 public parks across the city, as well as two community centers. The city said the initiative supports increased digital connectivity and access to online resources.

The city said the expanded access to WiFi, especially in the community centers, means students can complete assignments, job seekers can access employment opportunities, and families can stay connected.

“We are proud to expand digital accessibility in Homestead,” said Mayor Steve Losner. “This initiative aligns with our commitment to provide essential services that meet the needs of our community and foster growth and opportunity for all.”

The installation process will begin shortly, with a phased rollout planned to bring WiFi to parks and community centers in the coming months.
